There were two fashion sequences where the models walked the ramp sporting various funky, formal and trendy hairstyles. A coffee table book that covered Shiva’s journey for 25 years was also unveiled at the event.
Shivarama K. Bhandary (Shiva), founder and CMD of Shiva’s Hair Designers Pvt Ltd who believes that hairstyling is more about shaping personalities, said, “My dream is to reach out to every nook and corner of the country and we are working on the project of opening up a chain of 100-odd salons across the country. I owe my success to my esteemed customers who have made me what I am today.”
After starting his first salon Stylo in Thane in 1988 there has been no looking back for Shiva has also received acknowledgement on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) television show for styling the KBC logo on a patron.
Fighting all odds, Shiva has come up to be known for his skills and expertise. Like a deft sculptor, Shiva carves out shapes and designs from locks, curls and tresses fashioning them in the manner to make them look hip and trendy. Just as an artist devotedly chisels on his work, he wields a pair of scissors on a cluster of plain hair to express his creative outpourings.
He opened a salon in up-market Lokhandwala, Andheri West in 2001. Six years later, he opened another one in the posh area of Juhu and one in Malad this year. All his salons boast of a loyal customer base of famous film and television celebrities and top corporate and political personalities. Simultaneously, in 2010, he started one at Moodbidri, a small town near Mangalore, Karnataka; thereby taking his business venture closer to his place of birth.
Also, an institute for hairdressing, beauty and skincare on Link Road, Andheri, opened in 2010, is grooming budding talent in the field and trained students are either absorbed at Shiva’s salons or recommended as required. A similar salon- cum- academy is slated to be opened in Mangalore too.
In the next five years, he plans to roll out a series of 25 salons, thereby establishing his brand Shiva’s outside the city of Mumbai.
